Child resistant packaging
Difficult for children. Easy for adults
How Locked4Kids CR packaging works
Locked4Kids consists of a carton and a plastic tray that holds the product in blister strips. To access the product, the tray should be pulled out like a drawer. To secure child safety this only works if two hooks on the top of the carton are pressed simultaneously. Looking closely at the Locked4Kids carton, you will find two push points with hooks sticking out. These push points are located diagonally across each side of the carton. And that’s why children have difficulties opening the cartons. They simply don’t understand how it works. And if they do, they are not able to handle it physically because their hands are too small.
Proof of innovation
It’s extremely difficult, but at the same time fascinating to create something that is so simple, inexpensive and easy to produce and at the same time easy to use for everyone… except of course for little children.
It’s a proven fact that cartons are not only the best, but also the most economical solution, to package blisters with tablets and capsules. Until now the only option to package blisters in a child resistant way is by using all kinds of specialty packaging, available in the market.
That’s why Ecobliss started the development of Locked4Kids cartons in 2013. The target was to make the carton easy to open by everyone, except young children. Professionals that deal with child resistant packaging know very well, that finding the thin line between true senior friendliness, and at the same passing the testing protocols with young children is the toughest packaging design job anyone can imagine. Ecobliss managed to do so with great success.
More functionalities
Locked4Kids can be expanded with even more functionality. By adding a tamper evidence solution, your add the guarantee that the packaging has not been opened before. Consider solutions such as a special seal, perforations, special die-cut patterns or multi-layer stickers that are applied to the wallet.
Sustainable, cost-effective and suitable for mass-production
Traditional specialty blister packaging is expensive to produce. Locked4Kids is not. Fact is that blisters guarantee the integrity of tablets and capsules much better than a bottle. Blisters protect the individual dose against moisture and contamination. Besides this, production batch numbers and expiry dates can be stamped or printed on each individual blister. And – unlike bottles – blisters show clearly whether medicines have been tampered with. However, the costs of child resistant blister packaging were high. Up to now. Because Locked4Kids offers cost effective production of child resistant cartons to pack blisters.
Locked4Kids can be produced on standard cartonning equipment. Tablets, pills, capsules; with Locked4Kids they can be packed cost effectively in a sustainable carton/blister combination. Whether you need large volumes or small quantities, Locked4Kids offers a solution via highly automated packaging companies or via suppliers which can produce special or limited editions by hand.
Locked4Kids child resistant cartons have been developed for high-speed automated production on standard pharmaceutical packaging equipment supplied by companies such as Romaco, Uhlmann, Pentapack, etc. Blister strips are loaded top down into a tray, which is than inserted into the child resistant carton. With Locked4Kids cartons you can achieve the same packaging process speeds as with regular (non-CR) cartons.
